Penny worked as a laboratory manager in the Molecular Biology Department at the Salk Institute for fifteen years. Five years ago, she "retired" and pursued her passion for designing and creating jewelry on a full time basis. She has always been a "collector". First it was "heart" items, then rocks and fossils, then in 1980 she attended her first rubber stamp convention and was hooked. A couple of years and 3,000 stamps later a hobby had turned into an obsession. Penny also loved unique jewelry items and so she combined these interests and fashioned a line of speciality items that would appeal to stampers and scrapbook artists. Thus the original concept that gave way to her business!
It all started with her original polymer clay designs and has now expanded into sterling silver charms and findings and porcelain and art glass beads. Penny has an good eye for predicting trends in jewelry and fashion before they become a full blown fad. She relishes in "discovering" great new, yet relatively unknown, bead artist and watching their popularity increase over time. She applies this design sense into her own work and is constantly evolving her product line to stay one step ahead of the latest trends. Today, with the help of some very good friends, her designs have been sold in virtually every state, plus England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, you name it! Penny is constantly introducing new and exciting products to expand the design ideas available in beaded jewelry. Her first designs to combine sterling silver and lampwork beads were Imelda Caterpillar and The Dragonfly. The success of these designs opened the floodgates of creativity to a number of whimsical designs including Bead Critters, Bead Charmers and Fun Findings. She also continues to create unique designs for craft enthusiasts with her pages devoted to Rubberstampers and Scrapbook artists and Quilters. In fact, one of her favorite events on her show calender each year are the Carson, CA Original Rubberstamp Conventions!
If you have ever been to a Penny Michelle booth at a bead or stamp show than you probably realized that Penny Michelle is truly a family business. Mom and Dad, often times traveling with Penny to a show, continue to be Penny's greatest fan club and work very hard to help her prepare for shows and keep things running ( somewhat :) ) smoothly. Penny's friend Kimmie (JustK) added her beautiful lampwork bead products to Penny's website as well. Many new bead artists are being added to the website as Penny strives to provide a fun marketplace where her findings and unique beads, many of which are only available right here, can be purchased together!
You may have seen her designs advertised in Bead & Button and other craft publications, but now we hope you will enjoy browsing through a few of the fun pieces here on her web site. Check back often for new items that will be posted including One-of-a-Kind items and the One-Day One-of-a-Kind special on her home page. Penny is making plans to do several shows across the country each year, so before you leave, check out her Show Schedule and sign up for her mailing list.
Penny deals with all issues concerning her products, first hand, so please contact her with any questions or concerns you have and rest assured that it will be addressed as soon as possible.
